This sounds very similar to an application idea I submitted in a Nokia competition a while back, sadly I didn’t win that competition, however Nokia Beta Labs have just made my day with the launch of a brand new application called Nokia Connectivity Analyzer.
Nokia Connectivity Analyzer provides three kinds of utilities to diagnose and analyze WLAN and Packet Data connections.
Connectivity Diagnostics Test – With a couple of clicks the application connects to a selected access point and performs a diagnostics test. In case of any problems with the connectivity, you are informed about it with troubleshooting tips.
Following features for more advanced users and developers:
Connection Observer – This graphical presentation of WLAN and packet data connectivity and events releated to it helps you to analyze WLAN networks and how roaming is performed e.g. when using VoIP. The gathered data can be stored into a .csv file for further analysis. More advanced users and application developers can also capture the IP traffic of the device into a pcap file.
Ping Utility – This utility helps you to perform ICMP-Echo ping tests to a given hostname or IP address. With this feature it is easy to test IP connection to a selected destination.
Further details, including compatibility, and download information can be found over at Nokia Beta Labs here. Sadly this is a Qt application, so if you have the likes of an N97, you may struggle with lack of free memory if you choose to test out this beta, you have been warned.
