Just got my new Nokia N8!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am so excited!!!! I uploaded a couple of pics taken with my trusty N86. This device just feels great in the hand, picking it up first time in my hand, it felt expensive and just screams quality top notch hardware.

uploading my pics right now to flickr. Will share my pics in a couple mins.

brilliant news well done :-) picking mine up on friday morning but wont be able to mess a round with it untill friday evening :-( bit gutting but never mind!!

nice to see it ship with a screen protector , does the camera have a screen protector over it when you recieved it , if so i may leave mine for as long as possible

ive ordered the black one but iam tempted to ask for the orange one when i get into the store as i think itll be more rare and looks pretty sweet in orange , on the other hand all my gadgets are black and a stealthy black n8 does look sweet hummmmm what to do

The camera has a plastic protector to protect it during shipping, but i would recommend taking it off because it could affect the quality of your images. I took mine off.

Sounds like they maybe front page worthy, so hopefully the skies are clear.

Just a quick point - I notice you are not shooting at full resolution, any reason?

I uploaded those pics from pixelpipe to flickr, i think it automatically resized them. I will transfer the rest of the pics from the N8 to my pc and then upload them from there to see if they upload the full res pics.

But I am in NY, and didn't know the N8 was out in the US yet.
Where in the city did you pick one up?

    Cheers!

Maybe best to transfer them to your pc first then upload to flickr? Try that for now. You may need to latest Pixelpipe Send and Share app to upload full sized images to your pipes.

Just checked your EXIF data on your photos, and the compression used it JPEG Old style.

Hopefully, give it a try, although, check your camera settings on your N8, best to double check those in case you have missed a setting somewhere.

I just realized I dont have flickr pro , i dont have the yearly paid subscription for $24.95 which will enable me full access to upload full resolution photos. I have only the free version. I will pay for a subscription later this week.

Something got messed up in their system so they called me cancelled my pre-order and took the order again on Friday at 5:30pm or so. Monday morning BAM!!!

So far I really like the device but I hope the rumor of the browser update are true because personally I don't like Opera much and the stock browser is wicked slowwwww...

That's not good to hear. The browser was quite fast on the N97 from what I recall, hope the N8 is not a backward step in terms of the browser?

Well I can't compare it to the 97 since I never used one. That being said I do own an iPhone 4, HTC Desire Z (Tmobile G2), Samsung Vibrant and a n900 at the moment (have a Palm Pre as well but since my Sprint contract is off the **** thing is locked out and I have't hacked it yet to unlock so I am going more off memory). It is certainly the slowest of the bunch. The pages render really well once they load up.

Coming from the other phones it is noticeable. Also it is not as smooth scrolling as the other phones. On occasion with heavy pages you have to wait a few seconds for some heavy pages to respond without being able to interact with what has already loaded. Almost as if the phone is frozen at times. It does come back and the browser works but overall it just isn't as polished an experience compared to Android, iOS or WebOS.

It just depends on your expectations and what device you are coming from I guess. Personally my mobile phones take the place of a laptop or desktop for browsing the web 90% of the time so it is always a very important feature for me.

I look forward to the rumored update because there is something to build on here. It just doesn't feel prime time I guess. Also the font doesn't look great when the pages are zoomed out. Almost illegible. When you double tap it gets better but the font is very fine (not bold looking). It looks great when you pinch to zoom in a bit but then you lose the word wrap.

I don't know. Just feels like with a little bit more work they could really do good things with this browser. But as it stands it is only ok as is, at times a tad frustrating.

The CAMERA on the other hand is just amazing!!! I took some quick picks last night and earlier today and wow just wow! Smokes ANY other phone I have ever owned. I will officially no longer carry a point and click. It is as good as Nokia promised. Video is not bad but I wish it came 30 fps out of the box. That being said make sure you turn the Video Stabilization it makes a big difference...that or I am crazy shaky! LOL.

The phone is overall very smooth as well. All the scrolling through lists, menu items apps, music and photos is verrryyyy smooth and fast.

The screen is also a pleasant surprise. The resolution scared me as did the AMOLED a little bit. Yes the AMOLED's look fun color wise and are bright. The problem with both the Nexus One and the Vibrant IN MY EYES was the Pentile matrix where my eyes could make out the pixels. They didn't look overall as sharp as say the HD2, Milestone or the G2 that I have now. That being said on this screen maybe because it is smaller, I don't know, or maybe the pixel density is better but I fixes the problem I had with the Nexus and the Vibrant. I don't notice it like I did every time I looked at the other 2 devices.

The screen is however narrower then all the other devices with the same height as the iPhone. It is small but so far everyone I showed the phone to complements the size and weight and no one commented on the physical size of the screen.

The keyboards are not great. You get used to it but I wish the qwerty had word hints. I can't wait until Swype comes out. I don't care if it is Alpha if it works at all it will be my primary keyboard.

WOOOWWW that was long. Sorry I got a little carried away there...

The Swype beta at betalabs.nokia.com works on the N8, although I've not tested it.

Also, on the qwerty, if you dig down into the menu option settings for the keyboard, you can switch it so that it suggests/completes words that you can choose to go with with the right arrow (decent although not as smooth as on Android) and corrects spelling, making the corrected word the one entered into text by hitting space bar (rather than the default setting that brings the corrected word up in a box that you have to click on to enter it into text).

LOL, I had only planned on talking about the browser but that would have given a bad impression. I wanted to point out the positive stuff also.

For anyone interested today I did some battery testing in real world but probably new gadget exaggerated usage. I wanted to do a music / usage test. At work I listen to music all day long. I also text on and off and occasionally surf the web to check out whats new in the gadget world.

I started the day by pulling the n8 off the charger at 7:15am. I kicked out a few text messages and checked out my email. The wallpaper needed changing so I added some of my Spiderman pictures to each of the home screen cause I am a Spiderman nerd and I needs me some comic background goodness.

Before I got to the office I downloaded a couple of apps and played a couple of levels of Angry Birds (10 minutes max). At 8:30am I put the music on shuffle and let it run until around 1:00pm (lunch time).

During the morning I checked it periodically and can confirm I also have the battery indicator issue where it shows 100% for hours on end and then all of a sudden shows you actual battery life.

At 1:30pm I took a look and it was at 50%. I surfed the web for around 20 minutes while I finished scarfing down my lunch. When I got back to the office around 2 the battery showed 40%. I decided to just work without music (I code web applications for my day job...). Answered emails and texts for the rest of the day and by 4:30 I was at 20%. Between 4:30 and 5:30 I surfed the web brought the battery to around 10% and that was pretty much that. I plugged it in at 6:00pm when the phone told me battery was low and asked me to put it in battery save mode. It changes the network connection to edge speeds and adjusts the brightness to a lower setting from what I observed.

So that is a pretty heavy day I guess and considering usually the first couple of weeks are new gadget battery intense it is easy to see that making it through a day shouldn't be a problem.

On. It works really well as far as smoothing out a shaky hand. I am yet to make an a/b test to see if it hurts overall quality but on the small screen anyways it definitely works how you would expect it to.

Feel free to kick me out any questions you all have I am open!
