How to edit/delete word in dictionary? What an annoying issue..!

Whenever I use the dictionary and want to type "I will see you", it always ends up as "I Will see you" with the capital W in will even though it is in the middle of a sentence.

I press * at the end of Will and re-spell it as will. In the very next sentence, it still comes as Will.

    wtf?

Is there a fix to this? And yes, it only happens with this word WILL!

try a soft reset and it should sort it as that gets rid of the words you have added.. hold power button down till the phone vibrates three times

One of my biggest annoyances with Nokia, you can't edit the dictionary per say. There is methods people say work, which including writing the word, as it shows incorrectly, delete it and then write it out 10+ times in a row.

Personally I've never got this to work.

It's a shame Nokia shelved the "Nokia Custom Dictionary" from their BETA labs recently.

    Ok guys, its working now.

I typed an sms with only one word repeatedly and corrected 'Will' every time to 'will' and after about 5-6 times... 'will' is the first choice word at the combination of those letters.

    Try it.

---------- Post added at 10:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:44 AM ----------

And no, soft/hard resets are not the solution - they will cause more problems than they can solve.

Dictionary to be resurrected in Anna

I am sure I read recently that Beta Labs said the Custom Dictionary will work for N8 on Anna.

Anybody else notice this? Or did I just dream it?

P.S. I see your dictionary can't spell "per se" either!

You can blame Firefox spell checker/corrector for that!

RE Anna - Where did you read that, last I read was Nokia had "reached a stage where we need to conclude this trial and investigate how best to use our findings."

Do you have any information around for this being included in PR2.0/Anna?

Here is what the Nokia beta Labs blog says

"The Nokia Custom Dictionary application has had a good experimental run, here at Beta Labs. During the trial, we have been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic response it has received. We are very happy many users have found great use for the application. We have gathered lots of valuable feedback in the process. In fact, we have reached a stage where we need to conclude this trial and investigate how best to use our findings.

Thank you all, for your support of Nokia Custom Dictionary. It will continue to be available in the Beta Labs archives using the direct link - Nokia Custom Dictionary | Nokia Beta Labs

For all those who have requested an update for Symbian^3 devices, the application should work after your device is updated to the Symbian Anna release.

    With best regards,

    - Sethu"

I must admit I misread your original post, I took it as "it'd come installed in the Anna update"

Yup, I have told several folks to "duck off". It seems Nokia's programers do not like us to curse.

Swype doesn't care much for profanity either. Welcome to conditioning by the moral guardians at Nokia.

I hate to point out that Nokia may be trying to stop you from getting a fine. It is still technically illegal to use profanity, sext, or anything in these realms over a telephony device. Although I am not aware of anyone actually being prosecuted for this it is a reality.

Indeed, but in all seriousness If Nokia have no legal responsibilty to try and lessen this "law breaking" (which I can't see how they can have) who are they to limit the language of a purchaser of one their phones ? Because that is what it amounts to if (lots of presumptions in this post) their software is purposely making the use of profanity difficult.

I don't think it is a case of Nokia doing anything of the sort, because the F word, and a host of other profanities get added to the dictionary just fine..

I think it's just a bug... anyhow, I've gotten around it by just adding the word "sh*tt" and using that instead

Maybe it's something to do with there being no recognised word using that combination of four letters. For other swear words you may use, the majority already have other combo's you can use, so the dictionary lets you add the word in.

If there is no possible combination recognised within the language pack dictionary installed, it simply won't let you add too....very much a bug more than Nokia controlling etc.

The word shiver starts with the same 4 letter combination as sh*t, once you've added sh*t to the dictionary it breaks it and you have to manually type shiver.

It works fine with swype tho.

Seems really weird there's a problem with sh*t - I'm a foul mouth git and regularly text people calling them names, dictionary has no problem with that!

Before it gets out of hand, no other masked swearing please.

We can let this one go, as it's a word, people need genuine help on.

Some of the other words used in some posts are Unnecessary..

I just managed to solve this problem. (Will for will) When I typed "Wil.. I clicked on options, (middle button on the bottom) and chose "Predictive text" and then "Matches. I then discovered that "will" was not in the dictionary, only "Will" and "wil" (one l) so I clicked on "Insert word" and inserted "will". Now when I type "Will" I simply click on astrix and it changes to "will"
