    Weather Forecast

I am looking for an app that will enable me to download a local weather forecast.

I go on breaks around the UK with my family and I think it would be great if I could get out my phone and find out whether or not it will be sun or rain for the next 5 days. Ideally this report would be automatically generated based on my location (GPS) rather than me manually having to enter details.

    Is there anything out there?

    Thanks

Worldmate is the best I can suggest, but thats manual location input.

I certainly havent heard of a GPS/location based one. And bear in mind that it would be difficult, as well as battery draining.

You would either have to have GPS on constantly (not feasible), or have it come on at certain intervals (still battery draining), problem being if your somewhere where you dont get a GPS lock when it tries.

There could be one that does it by cell data I suppose.

Thanks, I'll have a look at worldmate.

I was thinking that if you boot the software, it would then make a GPS connection and go from there. Positioning would only be required for a short period whilst you gather the info - Any budding developers out there?

Nope, doesnt use GPS or cell data. Its manual input, just like worldmate (except it costs you).

hmm, this is a very interesting idea. Perhaps some developers could get to work now?

I would certainly give me full support to something like this!

Id settle for more cities/towns available in worldmate, but there we go.

Mind you, I think one that does it by cell data would be much more efficiant.

Weather reports do not need to be as accurate as GPS, since theres often only reports from nearest large towns anyway.

In addition, cell data is automatically known, and doesnt require much battery power, certainly nothing compared to GPS. And the signal wouldnt be a problem either, as phone signal is much easier to have rather than GPS signal.

A setting to adjust how often it updates its position would be nice, as well as how often it downloads new weather updates.

    Oh, thanks!

Im not a developer, though I work with some.

I just think of good ways to impliment stuff. (At least I try).

A weather app that did that though, and had some of the other functions I like I would pay for.

Don't I get any credit for thinking what I want out of an app and having those ideas expanded on?

Normally yes, but its been mentioned quite a few times before, on AAS for one. Though I dont doubt that you came up with that yourself. A lot of people were dissapointed that the new handy weather didnt do it, especially as its a paid for bit of software.

I tried the trial version, not as good as the free worldmate one IMO.

    Fairy Nuff

    What is AAS btw?

I very rarely look into software so not sure what is out there - from the brief search I did, nothing seemed to be as straight forward (or as obvious) as a 'location tagger' (in your words) seems to be.

I was quite surprised that it hadn't been brought up before - even when I searched the forums.

All about symbian All About Symbian Forums - Powered by vBulletin , its just a website Im a moderator on. I haunt both, and various GPS forums.

It is a good idea, and Im sure more apps could benefit from using GPS (or cell data).
